Where AI Actually Helps a Small Business (And Where It Doesn't Yet)
Cutting through the noise: the AI use cases we have seen deliver real time savings for SMEs in the last year, and the ones that still need a human in the loop.
Every vendor now has an AI story. Most of it is a chatbot bolted onto an existing product. Here is what has genuinely moved the needle for the small and mid-sized businesses we work with.
Working today
First-draft content at scale. Product descriptions, ad variants and email sequences — drafted in minutes, edited by a human in a fraction of the time writing from scratch would take.
Document extraction. Pulling line items out of supplier invoices and purchase orders into your accounting system. Accuracy is now high enough that review, rather than re-entry, is the job.
Support triage. Routing and summarising incoming queries so the right person picks them up with context already attached.
Not there yet
Unsupervised customer conversations. A bot that quotes prices or commits to delivery dates without review will eventually commit to something you cannot honour.
Anything regulated or safety-critical. Compliance documentation, medical claims and financial advice still need named human accountability.
How to start
Pick one repetitive task that consumes several hours a week, measure how long it takes today, and pilot for a month. If it does not save measurable time, drop it and try the next one. That discipline is what separates the businesses getting value from the ones buying licences.
